Often identified with its Galapagos Islands, the rest of the Ecuador is no less fascinating. The country is situated in a region known for its highest concentration of terrestrial life forms on the planet and is one of the world’s most significant biodiversity hotspots. The snow-capped Ecuadorian Andes reach here a height of 20,565 ft/6,268.2 m above sea level crossing the country from north to south, with the west faced to the Pacific Ocean and the east opened to the Amazon basin. Despite Spanish being the main language, over sixteen languages are still spoken in different parts of the country.
Led by award-winning photographer and biologist, Sasha Vasiljev, this tour will offer vast opportunities to explore the riches of Ecuador, from both west and east side of the Andes. Observe one of the highest concentration of Hummingbird species in the world, not to mention toucans, Andean cock-of-the-rock, tanagers among many bird species to photograph. Orchids and other exotic plants will be in your camera's focus as well. Ecuador's dramatic landscapes, ranging in altitudes from 1,148 ft/350 m to 13,776 ft/4,200 m above sea level will bedazzle you. No less fascinating here is ethnic culture, from the famously colorful and eclectic Otavalo market, known for its hand-woven textiles and colorfully dressed indigenous people to the town of San Antonio, the woodcarving capital of Ecuador, and the lowland Amazonian forest with the indigenous Kichwa and Huaorani tribes.
Throughout the trip you will stay at boutique lodges and hotels chosen for their charm, comfort, services and good food. In addition, we have chosen the lodges that possess secondary and primary forests on their property, ensuring their conservation.
Sasha will work with you to further develop your nature and landscape photography skills through informal teaching sessions and hands-on field shooting. You will leave Ecuador with an exceptional photo portfolio from this instructive photography trip.
